White House Reveals Medical Condition Causing Swelling In Trump’s Legs

The White House on Thursday released details about President Donald Trump’s recent medical evaluations, addressing public speculation over swelling in his legs and bruising on his right hand.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency in his legs — a common and non-serious condition, particularly in adults over 70 — and emphasized that the president remains in “excellent health.”

“In the effort of transparency, the president wanted me to share a note from his physician,” Leavitt said, before reading a memo from Dr. Sean Barbabella, the Navy physician to the president.

Dr. Barbabella explained that recent ultrasounds showed blood pooling in Trump’s lower legs, consistent with chronic venous insufficiency. The condition can be caused by prolonged standing and results in mild swelling and, in some cases, visible veins. The doctor noted that Trump’s condition is “benign and common” and poses no serious risk.

A full battery of medical tests, including bloodwork, a clotting profile, and an echocardiogram, showed “all results were within normal limits.” The report confirmed Trump had no signs of deep vein thrombosis, heart failure, kidney issues, or arterial disease.

The memo also addressed photos showing bruising on the back of Trump’s right hand, which had sparked online speculation. According to Dr. Barbabella, the discoloration is a result of “minor soft tissue irritation from frequent handshaking” compounded by Trump’s daily aspirin regimen — a standard measure to promote cardiovascular health.

“The president remains in excellent health, which I think all of you witness on a daily basis,” Leavitt added.

The release stands in stark contrast to how the previous administration handled medical scrutiny. Concerns about Joe Biden’s cognitive decline dominated the final months of his presidency, especially following a disastrous debate performance that eventually led to his withdrawal from the 2024 race.

Last week, Biden’s former physician invoked the Fifth Amendment during a House Oversight Committee investigation into an alleged cover-up surrounding the 46th president’s mental fitness. A top aide to Jill Biden also refused to answer questions on Wednesday, deepening suspicions about what the administration may have withheld from the public.

Meanwhile, the Trump White House’s proactive disclosure aims to assure the public that the president is fit, focused, and leading with full capacity.
