Trump Says Biden DOJ Targeted Charlie Kirk, Turning Point USA
President Donald Trump alleged Tuesday that the Biden administration weaponized the Department of Justice to target Turning Point USA and its founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated last week while hosting a campus event in Utah.
“Why was the wonderful Turning Point under INVESTIGATION by ‘Deranged’ Jack Smith and the Corrupt & Incompetent Biden Administration,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “They tried to force Charlie, and many other people and movements, out of business. They Weaponized the Justice Department against Sleepy Joe Biden’s Political Opponents, including ME!”
Kirk, a prominent conservative activist and grassroots leader, founded Turning Point USA in 2012. His murder on September 10 during a Q&A event at Utah Valley University has reignited scrutiny over the political climate and the alleged bias within federal law enforcement under the prior administration.
Special Counsel Jack Smith, appointed by then-Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2022, led investigations into Trump’s handling of classified documents and the events of January 6. Trump and his allies now claim Smith also directed efforts to investigate Turning Point USA, implying a pattern of political targeting.
Vice President JD Vance echoed Trump’s accusation during a Fox News appearance Wednesday night, blaming the Biden DOJ for focusing on conservative groups rather than radical left-wing extremism.
“We’re talking about having law enforcement go after the people who engage in and fund literal violence, and they’re saying somehow that’s beyond the pale, even though we know Joe Biden’s FBI was investigating Charlie Kirk,” Vance told Jesse Watters. “Maybe they should have been investigating the networks that motivated, inspired, and maybe even funded Charlie Kirk’s murder. If they had, Charlie Kirk might be alive today.”
Vance’s comments follow revelations from prosecutors that suspected killer Tyler Robinson was politically radicalized and motivated by hatred for Kirk’s views.
In a related move Wednesday evening, Trump officially designated the far-left group Antifa as a major terrorist organization, citing a pattern of incitement and violence against conservatives.
The White House has not publicly responded to Trump’s accusation regarding Turning Point USA, but critics say federal agencies under the previous administration prioritized investigating political dissent over addressing actual threats.
Kirk’s assassination has galvanized calls for accountability and a reassessment of political priorities within federal law enforcement.
