Trump Revokes Iran’s Oil Sale License After Strait Of Hormuz Attacks

The Trump administration has revoked Iran’s temporary authorization to sell oil after a series of attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, declaring that Tehran’s actions violated the terms of the recent U.S.-Iran agreement. The move effectively restores restrictions that had been eased just weeks earlier as part of ongoing negotiations.

Treasury officials said the decision was prompted by what they described as Iran’s “wholly unacceptable” attacks on commercial shipping over the past 24 hours. The administration stressed that any economic relief granted to Iran was always intended to be conditional on the country’s behavior and commitment to maintaining safe passage through the vital waterway.

The temporary waiver, known as General License X, had been issued in late June as part of a 60-day memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran. It allowed Iran to export crude oil and petroleum products while negotiators worked toward a broader peace agreement following months of conflict.

The administration made clear that the revocation does not end diplomatic efforts. U.S. officials said negotiators remain committed to reaching a final agreement but emphasized that Iran will receive economic benefits only if it complies with its commitments and refrains from threatening international shipping.

The latest escalation follows reports that multiple tankers were struck in or near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy corridors. The attacks sent oil prices sharply higher as markets reacted to fears of renewed disruptions to global energy supplies.

The decision signals that the Trump administration intends to respond quickly to any violations of the interim agreement while continuing to pursue a broader deal with Iran. Officials warned that additional consequences could follow if Tehran continues actions that threaten international commerce or regional stability.
