US Launches Powerful Strikes On Iran After Ceasefire Violations In Strait Of Hormuz

The U.S. military launched a new wave of airstrikes against Iranian targets Tuesday after Tehran attacked three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, with the Trump administration declaring that Iran had violated the ceasefire agreement reached just weeks ago.

U.S. Central Command said the operation targeted Iranian military assets to impose “heavy costs” for what it described as unwarranted attacks on civilian shipping in international waters. Iranian state media reported explosions near the southern coastal city of Sirik and on Qeshm Island following the strikes.

Administration officials said the military response came after Iranian forces attacked tankers flying the flags of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia over the past two days. The White House argued that the attacks directly violated Iran’s commitments under the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding that had temporarily eased tensions in the region.

The strikes followed the Trump administration’s decision to revoke Iran’s temporary license to sell oil, restoring economic pressure after concluding that Tehran had failed to uphold its end of the agreement. Officials emphasized that any sanctions relief was always contingent on Iran maintaining safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the military action, U.S. officials said diplomatic efforts remain ongoing. The administration stated that negotiators are continuing to pursue a broader agreement with Iran while making clear that further attacks on commercial shipping will result in additional consequences.

The strikes came as President Trump attended the NATO summit in Turkey, where the conflict with Iran dominated discussions with allied leaders. The latest escalation has renewed concerns over global energy supplies and security in one of the world’s most important shipping lanes.
