Army Veteran Dies After Brutal Attack Outside California ‘Trump House’

A California Army veteran known locally for decorating his home with American flags and pro-Trump displays has died days after suffering severe injuries in what authorities described as a violent daytime attack outside his residence.

Kerry George Sheron, 69, died Sunday evening after remaining hospitalized in intensive care following the May 20 assault outside his home in Escondido.

According to prosecutors, 32-year-old Thomas Caleb Butler allegedly attacked Sheron outside the veteran’s home, repeatedly punching and stomping on his head during what investigators described as a brutal assault.

Authorities said a bystander attempted to intervene, but Butler allegedly turned toward the witness, issued threats, and threw a punch before fleeing the area. Police later arrested Butler a short distance away.

Butler was initially charged with attempted murder, elder abuse causing great bodily injury, battery, and criminal threats. Following Sheron’s death, prosecutors are reportedly reviewing whether to upgrade the charges to murder.

Sheron’s home had become widely known throughout the neighborhood as the “Trump House” because of its large patriotic displays, Trump banners, and American flags.

His widow, Maria Garcia, believes the political displays may have contributed to the attack.

“They don’t like the flags,” Garcia said. “I support America. My husband is a veteran.”

Friends of the family said the property had previously been vandalized, including incidents where flags displayed outside the home were reportedly slashed.

Family friend Jim Gillie said Sheron regularly dealt with both support and hostility from passing drivers but never allowed criticism to shake his patriotic spirit.

“Kerry was used to it,” Gillie said, explaining that the veteran often displayed Trump signs and flags outside his property while interacting with neighbors and passersby.

In the days since the attack, local residents have gathered outside the home to leave flowers, hold vigils, and honor Sheron’s life and military service. Neighbors have also reportedly pledged to help maintain the patriotic displays outside the residence.

Community activist Yusef Miller called the killing a tragic reflection of growing division and hostility across the country.

Sheron’s family remembered him as a devoted husband, church volunteer, veteran, and patriot whose love for his country remained central to his life until the very end.
