In a sweeping crackdown on wasteful government spending, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), under the leadership of Elon Musk, has deactivated over 200,000 federal government credit cards. The move comes after a comprehensive audit exposed rampant misuse, redundancy, and billions in unnecessary spending across multiple federal agencies.

Massive Federal Spending Under Scrutiny

The audit revealed that federal agencies held over 4.6 million active credit card accounts, racking up an astonishing $40 billion in spending in fiscal year 2024 alone. Many of these government-issued credit cards were found to be unused, unjustified, or linked to expenses that had little accountability.

To rein in this out-of-control spending, DOGE has already canceled 204,801 credit cards, including:

  • 171,120 travel cards that were frequently used for excessive and non-essential expenses.
  • 33,681 purchase cards, many of which were used to buy items completely unrelated to government work.

Which Agencies Were Affected?

This massive cost-cutting effort impacted nearly every major federal department, including the General Services Administration (GSA), Department of Labor, Small Business Administration (SBA), Department of Education, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Agriculture (USDA), NASA, and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), among many others.

These agencies, notorious for bureaucratic bloat and unchecked spending, will now face stricter oversight under the Trump administration’s aggressive push to eliminate government waste and restore fiscal responsibility.

Trump’s Commitment to Accountability

The deactivation of these 200,000+ government credit cards sends a clear message—under President Donald Trump, the era of unlimited government slush funds and reckless spending is over.

Elon Musk’s leadership at DOGE has already identified billions in taxpayer savings, and this latest action is just the beginning. The administration remains committed to holding federal agencies accountable, cutting unnecessary costs, and ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely—not squandered on bureaucratic luxuries.

America First: Ending Government Waste Once and For All

With the federal bureaucracy shrinking and wasteful programs being eliminated, this latest move by DOGE is another step toward restoring efficiency, accountability, and transparency in Washington.

The Trump administration has made it clear: taxpayer money belongs to the American people, not to unelected bureaucrats using government credit cards to fund their lavish spending habits.
