Elon Musk Apologizes to Trump After Public Feud: “I Went Too Far”

After a high-profile week of social media attacks and political fallout, Elon Musk issued a public apology to President Donald Trump early Wednesday morning—marking a sharp reversal in tone from the billionaire entrepreneur.

In a post on X, Musk wrote: “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.” The statement comes just days after Musk posted—and then deleted—claims that Trump had been named in the Epstein files. Musk had also called on voters to oppose any lawmaker who supported Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” the sweeping budget and efficiency legislation currently moving through the Senate.

Musk’s criticism centered on his belief that the bill would roll back much of the progress made by the Department of Government Efficiency, known as the DOGE initiative, which Musk had previously supported for cutting federal waste.

But despite the clash over spending reforms, Musk made it clear in follow-up posts that he still aligned with Trump on core issues—particularly law and order. He reposted and endorsed several statements from Trump regarding the administration’s crackdown on violent riots in Los Angeles County. In those posts, Trump had blasted California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for allowing chaos to overtake their streets while ICE agents and law enforcement came under direct attack.

Musk also shared Trump’s statement condemning Democrat leadership in California for failing to take swift action as mobs targeted federal buildings, police vehicles, and immigration officers.

The public apology has reignited speculation that Musk and Trump could reconcile. With Musk praising the administration’s handling of the L.A. unrest and walking back his own comments, many observers saw the olive branch as genuine.

“Hat tip for fixing a wrong,” said former CIA officer Bryan Dean Wright. “The country is better for it.”

Whether this signals the end of the feud remains to be seen—but one thing is clear: Musk is recalibrating, and Trump isn’t the one backing down.
