Ex-Jets QB Mark Sanchez Stabbed in Indianapolis, Hospitalized With ‘Critical Injuries’

Former New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was stabbed early Saturday morning in downtown Indianapolis and is now hospitalized with what officials described as “critical injuries”, according to TMZ. He is 38 years old.

Police say they responded just after 12:30 a.m. to reports of two injured individuals. Sanchez was among them and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital. The second individual’s condition has not been confirmed.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and investigators have not announced whether any arrests have been made. Authorities have also not released details on what led to the stabbing.

Sanchez was in Indianapolis to broadcast Sunday’s Colts–Raiders game for Fox Sports.

From Quarterback to Broadcaster

Sanchez, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, spent four seasons with the Jets, guiding the team to back-to-back AFC Championship appearances. He later played for the Eagles, Cowboys, Bears, and Washington before retiring in 2019.

Since stepping away from the field, he has worked as a football analyst and studio commentator. He married actress Perry Mattfeld in 2023.

Investigation Ongoing

As of Saturday morning, police had confirmed that there was no immediate sign of foul play beyond the stabbing itself. The situation is still under investigation, and Sanchez’s condition remains serious.
