Fetterman Says He Doesn’t Understand GOP Popularity But Rejects Lara Trump’s Party Switch Pitch

Sen. John Fetterman said he remains puzzled by his growing popularity among Republican voters but made clear he has no plans to leave the Democratic Party, despite a public invitation from Lara Trump to switch sides. The Pennsylvania senator said he believes treating people with respect, regardless of political affiliation, has helped earn support from voters across the political spectrum.

During a prerecorded interview on Fox News’ “My View with Lara Trump,” Fetterman acknowledged that he has often found himself isolated within his own party because of his outspoken support for Israel and his willingness to criticize the Democratic Party’s progressive wing. He said Republicans frequently approach him with positive comments, adding that he doesn’t fully understand why he enjoys such strong support among GOP voters.

Fetterman also emphasized that he refuses to demonize Republicans or use inflammatory labels such as “fascists” or “Nazis.” Instead, he argued that Americans can disagree politically while still treating one another with respect, saying that approach has guided his public comments and interactions.

According to a recent Quinnipiac University poll, Fetterman holds a 77% approval rating among Pennsylvania Republicans while 69% of Democrats disapprove of his performance. His willingness to break with his party on issues such as Israel and his appearances on conservative media have fueled speculation that he could eventually become a Republican.

Lara Trump told Fetterman that Republicans would “love” to have him join the GOP, but he quickly rejected the idea. While noting that much of his own family is Republican, Fetterman said his criticism is aimed at what he considers the Democratic Party’s most extreme elements rather than the party itself. He reiterated that he would only consider leaving if Democrats became firmly anti-Israel, a position he has mentioned previously.

The senator also complained about what he sees as a double standard within his party, arguing that progressive Democrats are free to criticize moderates without consequence while he faces backlash for speaking out against the far left or appearing on conservative outlets. Despite his independent streak and frequent clashes with fellow Democrats, Fetterman insisted he remains committed to serving as a Democrat while continuing to speak his mind on issues where he believes his party has gone too far.
