Former Trump Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham Seeks Restraining Order Against Rep. Max Miller
Former Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham has sought a restraining order against Republican Rep. Max Miller of Ohio, her former boyfriend, as the congressman faces mounting allegations involving his personal conduct and growing pressure to abandon his reelection campaign.
Grisham and Miller briefly dated during President Trump’s first administration, when Miller worked as a special assistant to the president. Grisham later accused Miller of physically abusing her during their relationship, allegations Miller has denied. Miller sued Grisham for defamation after she detailed the alleged abuse in her 2021 memoir, with the lawsuit eventually being settled in 2023.
The latest development comes after Grisham sued Miller last month for allegedly violating a nondisclosure agreement connected to their previous legal settlement. Her attorneys claim Miller breached the agreement during a June interview in which he discussed allegations of abuse made against him. The specific reason Grisham is now seeking a restraining order has not been publicly disclosed.
Miller is simultaneously locked in a bitter custody dispute with his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno. She has accused Miller in court documents and police reports of shoving her, pouring scalding water on her and threatening her with a gun. Miller has denied the allegations.
The controversy intensified after Miller released a large collection of recordings and other records that he argued would help clear his name. Instead, some of the recordings appeared to support portions of his ex-wife’s account. In one conversation, Miller acknowledged pouring hot water on her while maintaining that he did not intend to hurt her.
Sen. Moreno has now publicly called on his former son-in-law to resign from Congress and seek psychological help. Moreno said Miller’s behavior had become increasingly “erratic and dangerous” and expressed concern about the safety of his daughter and granddaughter.
Miller has so far refused to abandon his reelection campaign despite facing a Wednesday deadline that would allow Republicans to replace him on the ballot. A recent Democratic-sponsored poll showed Miller leading Democratic challenger Brian Poindexter by only one percentage point in an Ohio district President Trump carried by 11 points in 2024.
President Trump has declined to take sides in the escalating family dispute. Trump described Miller as a “good person” while emphasizing that the accusations remain allegations and saying he would allow the families involved to work through the situation. With Grisham now seeking a restraining order on top of Miller’s ongoing custody battle, the controversy surrounding the Ohio congressman continues to grow just months before the midterm elections.
