Iran Suspends US Negotiations After Israeli Strike On Beirut

Iran announced Monday that it is suspending communications with the United States through intermediaries following Israeli strikes on Beirut, throwing ongoing negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz and broader peace talks into turmoil.

According to Iran-linked Tasnim News Agency, Tehran halted “discussions and exchanges of texts through intermediaries” after accusing Israel of violating cease-fire conditions tied to Lebanon.

“In light of the ongoing crimes of the Zionist regime in Lebanon and given that Lebanon was part of the ceasefire preconditions, and now this ceasefire has been violated on all fronts, including Lebanon, the Iranian negotiating team is suspending discussions,” the outlet stated.

The collapse in communications comes after weeks of efforts by the Trump administration to secure a broader agreement aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, easing tensions in the region, and restarting formal nuclear negotiations with Tehran.

Iranian officials also escalated threats against global shipping lanes, warning that additional chokepoints in the region could soon be targeted.

“The Resistance Front and Iran have resolved to pursue the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and the activation of other fronts, including the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, as part of their agenda to punish the Zionists and their supporters,” the report stated.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, carrying roughly one-fifth of the global oil supply. The Bab el-Mandeb Strait, located between Yemen and the Horn of Africa, is another vital shipping corridor linking the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.

Iran’s move threatens to derail one of President Donald Trump’s biggest foreign policy initiatives following months of conflict involving Iran, Israel, and US military operations throughout the Middle East.

The Trump administration had been pursuing a phased agreement that would reopen shipping lanes while beginning negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program and highly enriched uranium stockpile.

Iranian negotiators, however, are now demanding a halt to Israeli military operations in both Gaza and Lebanon before talks can resume.

Tehran also reiterated demands for a full Israeli withdrawal from occupied areas in Lebanon, insisting that no further dialogue would occur until those conditions are met.
