Joe Biden’s Cancer Has Spread Further, Leaving Former President in ‘Very Painful’ Condition, Hunter Reveals

Former President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread further through his body and is now causing significant pain, according to his son Hunter Biden, who described watching his father battle the advanced disease as difficult for the entire family.

Hunter provided the update during an interview with the BBC, revealing that the cancer has metastasized beyond what was previously publicly known. He said the disease has spread “into his bones and further” and described his father’s condition as both painful and debilitating.

Biden, 83, publicly announced his prostate cancer diagnosis in May 2025. Doctors diagnosed him with an aggressive form of the disease with a Gleason score of 9, and officials disclosed at the time that the cancer had already metastasized to his bones. The cancer was described as hormone-sensitive, providing doctors with treatment options despite its advanced stage.

The former president subsequently underwent hormone treatment and radiation therapy. He completed a course of radiation at Penn Medicine Radiation Oncology in Philadelphia in October 2025, but his family has made clear that his battle with cancer is ongoing.

Hunter said seeing his father deal with the physical effects of the disease has been especially difficult because Biden rarely complains about what he is experiencing. He said he actually wishes his father would complain more because the seriousness of his condition can otherwise be difficult for those around him to fully appreciate.

Despite his worsening health, Biden has continued making public appearances and speaking about political and national issues. Hunter said his father remains determined to stay engaged because of his deep attachment to the country and the causes he has spent decades advocating.

Former first lady Jill Biden has also recently discussed her husband’s cancer battle, saying the disease is something he will likely live with permanently. The Biden family has extensive personal experience with cancer after losing Joe Biden’s eldest son, Beau Biden, to brain cancer in 2015.

Biden’s health was already under intense scrutiny during the final years of his presidency, particularly surrounding his age and physical condition. His cancer diagnosis came several months after he left the White House, and the latest revelation from Hunter provides a more serious picture of the former president’s current health struggles.

For now, Biden continues receiving treatment while remaining publicly active when possible. Hunter’s latest comments make clear, however, that behind those appearances the former president is dealing with an advanced cancer that has continued to spread and is taking an increasingly painful physical toll.
