Journey’s Jonathan Cain Calls Bruce Springsteen An ‘Annoying, Bitter Old Man’

Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain is taking aim at Bruce Springsteen, criticizing the rock legend for repeatedly using his concerts to deliver political speeches against President Trump and urging him to “shut up” and focus on making music.

During an appearance on the Complete Disaster Network podcast, Cain said he has grown tired of celebrities using the stage to push political messages. A self-described “diehard conservative,” Cain said artists should entertain audiences rather than lecture them about politics.

Cain said he once considered himself a Democrat but no longer identifies with the party. He argued that political divisions should be left outside the concert venue and noted that he makes a point of avoiding political speeches during Journey performances, even though he is open about his Christian faith and conservative beliefs.

Turning his attention to Springsteen, Cain said the “Born to Run” singer has become “an annoying, bitter old man” and urged him to stop attacking President Trump during his shows. Cain also questioned Springsteen’s patriotic image, arguing that “Born in the U.S.A.” is more critical of America than many fans realize.

Springsteen has been one of President Trump’s most outspoken critics, using multiple stops on his recent tour to denounce the administration and criticize U.S. policy. His remarks have sparked strong reactions from supporters and critics alike, fueling an ongoing public feud between the two musicians.

Cain said music has the power to bring people together regardless of political beliefs, pointing to Journey crowds singing “Don’t Stop Believin'” in unison. He argued that artists should focus on creating moments of unity rather than deepening political divisions from the stage.
