Judge Orders E. Jean Carroll To Receive $5.8 Million From Trump Trial
A federal judge has ordered that E. Jean Carroll be paid $5.8 million from money President Trump deposited with the court while appealing the verdict in her sexual abuse and defamation case.
The ruling allows Carroll to collect the full $5 million judgment awarded by a Manhattan jury, along with interest that accumulated while Trump challenged the case.
Carroll sued Trump after accusing him of sexually abusing her in a department store dressing room in the 1990s and later defaming her when he denied the allegation. Trump has consistently denied wrongdoing.
The payout is separate from the larger $83.3 million defamation verdict Carroll won in a second trial. Trump is also appealing that judgment.
Trump’s legal team argued that Carroll should not receive the money while appeals continue, but the judge rejected that request and cleared the payment.
The decision marks another legal setback for Trump as his attorneys continue fighting multiple civil judgments tied to cases brought before he returned to the White House.
