Katie Zacharia Praises President Trump After Abrupt White House Exit, Calls Him a “Wonderful” Leader
Former White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia delivered a heartfelt tribute to President Trump just hours after being removed from her position, making clear that her admiration for the president remains unchanged despite her unusually brief tenure.
Zacharia, who served as Trump’s chief spokesperson for only five days, took to Instagram and X on Friday evening to praise the president’s character, leadership and dedication to the country.
“President Trump is a kind, wonderful, gracious, thoughtful, enthusiastic, and hardworking man,” Zacharia wrote. “I wish more Americans appreciated him.”
She continued by declaring that no one would ever make America great the way Trump has and continues to do, before adding that serving in his administration had been an honor.
The message was accompanied by a photograph of Zacharia standing beside Trump in the Oval Office. The president was seated behind the Resolute Desk, with a partially blurred map visible on the desk in front of him.
Her post quickly attracted widespread attention, generating more than 7.2 million views on X by Saturday morning.
The public show of appreciation came after a turbulent first week that ended with Zacharia’s dismissal on Friday, making her one of the shortest-serving White House press secretaries in American history.
President Trump had announced her appointment on October 9, selecting the conservative commentator and communications adviser to replace Karoline Leavitt, who departed the administration in August.
At the time, Trump praised Zacharia as a loyal supporter of his political movement and expressed confidence in her ability to represent the White House.
Zacharia officially began working in the position Monday and conducted her first press briefing Tuesday. That appearance would ultimately be her only briefing as the administration’s chief spokesperson.
The briefing lasted approximately 14 minutes and drew scrutiny over her reliance on prepared remarks and the limited number of questions she answered.
Her performance became the subject of additional attention during television interviews later in the week, including appearances on Fox News.
During a Thursday interview with Sean Hannity, Zacharia faced questions about her professional background after reports revealed that she had never passed the California bar examination.
Although she graduated from Pepperdine University’s law school, Zacharia acknowledged that she was not licensed to practice law.
The issue attracted attention because Trump had described her as an attorney when announcing her appointment.
Zacharia explained that she had taken the California bar examination but did not pass. She said she ultimately decided against pursuing another attempt because she expected to move to China.
The controversy continued Friday morning when Zacharia appeared on Fox & Friends and struggled to answer questions about several administration matters.
She was also unable to provide a date for her next White House press briefing.
Later that day, President Trump addressed the situation while speaking with reporters outside the White House before departing for a campaign rally.
Rather than launching a personal attack against Zacharia, the president emphasized the difficult treatment she had received during her first days in the position.
“I’ve watched her for years on television, but I said, ‘Is this for you, Katie? Because honestly, you don’t need this,'” Trump told reporters.
He suggested that the intense scrutiny surrounding the job had become a significant burden and revealed that he had encouraged Zacharia to reconsider whether she wanted to continue.
Trump also indicated that he had been surprised by the severity of the criticism directed at his newly appointed spokesperson.
Within hours, administration officials confirmed that Zacharia was leaving the press secretary position.
Two White House officials told Reuters that she had been dismissed and was transitioning out of the role.
Despite the abrupt decision, Zacharia’s subsequent social media message contained no public criticism of Trump or his administration.
Instead, she emphasized her gratitude for the opportunity and offered an unusually personal endorsement of the president.
The response stood in contrast to previous high-profile White House departures that resulted in public disagreements between former administration officials and the president.
Zacharia also addressed her departure in comments to The Wall Street Journal, explaining that she had attempted to fulfill her responsibilities despite receiving limited preparation time and information.
She said her objective had been to serve President Trump and the American people to the best of her ability.
Her departure does not necessarily mark the end of her involvement with the administration.
A source familiar with the situation told the New York Post that Zacharia was expected to transition into another position.
She was also reportedly scheduled to have dinner Friday evening with Vice President JD Vance.
The White House has not publicly announced what her next assignment might involve.
Zacharia previously worked as a senior communications adviser for Trump Media & Technology Group, the company behind the president’s Truth Social platform.
She also served briefly in a communications position at the Department of Homeland Security and regularly appeared on conservative television programs.
Her departure leaves the administration searching for another press secretary less than three weeks before the November 3 midterm elections.
Among the names mentioned as a potential replacement is CNN political commentator Scott Jennings, who has developed a reputation for defending Republican positions during televised political discussions.
Jennings was asked Friday whether he was interested in joining the White House but said he had not spoken with anyone about the position that day.
Trump has not announced a replacement or indicated when the position will be filled.
The president’s next selection will assume responsibility for representing the administration during a particularly demanding period, with congressional elections approaching and major foreign policy and economic issues dominating national attention.
For Zacharia, the White House assignment ended almost as quickly as it began.
However, her farewell message made one thing unmistakable: losing the press secretary position has not diminished her public admiration for President Trump.
Rather than criticizing the president who selected her and ultimately ended her tenure, Zacharia chose to thank him and praise his leadership, closing her brief chapter as White House press secretary on a note of appreciation.
