Man With Firearm Arrested On US Capitol Grounds

U.S. Capitol Police arrested a man Monday morning after officers said he brought a firearm onto the grounds of the U.S. Capitol.

The unidentified man was taken into custody near the North Barricade on the Senate side of the Capitol complex. Police said firearms are strictly prohibited anywhere on Capitol grounds.

Images from the scene showed officers surrounding a gray Ford Bronco near the barricade. The suspect reportedly exited the vehicle with his hands raised, walked backward toward police, and was handcuffed without incident.

At least six officers responded to the scene, with two appearing to point their weapons toward the suspect as he followed their commands. A dog was reportedly inside the vehicle at the time of the arrest.

The North Barricade was temporarily closed while officers investigated the vehicle and worked to determine why the man had traveled to the Capitol with a gun.

Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity or announced any formal charges. Police also have not revealed whether the man made any threats or intended to target lawmakers, staff members, or visitors.

The incident comes amid heightened security concerns around the Capitol following several recent encounters involving armed individuals.

In February, Capitol Police arrested an 18-year-old Georgia man who allegedly approached the building wearing tactical gear and carrying a loaded shotgun shortly before President Trump’s State of the Union address.

Monday’s incident remains under investigation.
