Nancy Mace Pushes To Release Congressional Misconduct Records, Calls For ‘Avalanche Of Resignations’
Rep. Nancy Mace is calling for sweeping transparency on Capitol Hill, urging Congress to release records related to sexual harassment allegations involving lawmakers and demanding accountability across both parties.
Mace said she wants to see an “avalanche of resignations,” arguing that any member of Congress found to have engaged in misconduct should step down regardless of political affiliation. She introduced a resolution aimed at forcing the House Ethics Committee to disclose its internal records on harassment cases.
Her push comes in the wake of the resignation of former Rep. Eric Swalwell, who stepped down after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced. Swalwell has denied wrongdoing and said he plans to fight the claims.
Mace criticized what she described as a longstanding culture of silence in Washington, alleging that both Democrats and Republicans have previously blocked efforts to make such records public in order to avoid exposing members of their own parties.
She also pointed to the resignation of former Rep. Tony Gonzales, saying her proposal is intended to ensure consistent standards are applied across the board.
“We need to clean up our own party,” Mace said, emphasizing that accountability must be applied equally if lawmakers are going to criticize misconduct on the other side of the aisle.
Her resolution seeks to reopen debate over transparency and oversight within Congress, potentially setting up a broader fight over how misconduct allegations involving elected officials are handled and disclosed to the public.
