Oklahoma Senate Candidate Barry Christian Found Dead After Disappearance
A missing Republican Oklahoma state Senate candidate has been found dead in a rural area, according to state authorities and his campaign.
Barry Christian, 54, who was running for District 38, was discovered Thursday inside his truck after being reported missing earlier in the week. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation confirmed that a vehicle matching his 2024 charcoal gray Ram was located off Highway 30 near Erick, Oklahoma, with a body inside.
Officials said the truck was found near a ravine close to the Sandy Sanders Wildlife Management Area. Due to the terrain, recovery efforts have been complicated, and authorities indicated that the body could not immediately be removed, delaying formal identification.
Christian had been reported missing Tuesday after failing to attend a scheduled meeting. According to the Harmon County Sheriff’s Office, he was last seen driving his truck before his disappearance.
In the days leading up to his disappearance, Christian had been actively campaigning. His last public post invited residents to a meet-and-greet event at the Mangum Rattlesnake Festival to discuss local issues. His campaign described him as a conservative candidate aligned with President Donald Trump and focused on traditional policy positions.
A campaign sign bearing his name was reportedly found discarded near the scene as authorities conducted their search.
Christian’s daughter, Brooklyn Christian, released a statement expressing grief and asking for privacy as the family processes the loss.
“Our world is upside down right now,” she said, adding that details surrounding her father’s death remain unclear and urging the public to treat his legacy with dignity.
Authorities have not released a cause of death, and the investigation remains ongoing.
