Rubio Says President Trump Wants ‘A Head For An Eye’ In Dealing With Iran

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said President Donald Trump is prepared to respond to Iranian aggression with overwhelming force, describing the administration’s approach as “a head for an eye” rather than the traditional “eye for an eye.” Rubio said the message is intended to make clear that any further attacks by Iran or its proxies will bring consequences far greater than the original provocation.

Rubio made the remarks while discussing the administration’s strategy as fighting with Iran continues. He said Iran’s leaders have repeatedly violated agreements and continue to threaten American forces, allies and international shipping, leaving the United States prepared to escalate its response if necessary.

According to Rubio, President Trump believes Iran’s military capabilities are steadily being weakened through sustained U.S. operations and economic pressure. He argued that Tehran’s leadership now understands the cost of continuing the conflict but has yet to demonstrate a genuine willingness to negotiate an end to the fighting.

Rubio also warned that any additional attacks on commercial vessels or attempts to disrupt global shipping routes, including through the Strait of Hormuz, could trigger expanded U.S. military strikes against Iranian infrastructure. He said the administration is determined to ensure Iran cannot threaten international commerce or regional stability.

While emphasizing that the United States remains open to a diplomatic resolution, Rubio said peace will require Iran to demonstrate it is serious about ending its aggression. Until then, he said President Trump is committed to maintaining maximum military and economic pressure to protect American interests and deter future attacks.
