Trump Outshines Biden-Harris’ Lackluster Performance: A Closer Look at Approval Ratings

Recent data presents a grim picture of President Trump’s approval ratings, indicating a decline in public approval. This comes as no surprise as Trump’s ratings continually lag among the lowest in contemporary history. With roughly 41% endorsing his activities, he falls short of the average approval rating of 45% evaluated in June.

The approval scores for Trump’s second term are at an all-time low in comparison to his modern presidential counterparts. The situation appears even dire looking at a Reuters/Ipsos poll, wherein 84% of the participants expressed their concern about the conflicts with Iran.

In recent weeks, Trump’s approval rating has been relatively static; however, as a result of his decision to attack several Iranian nuclear sites, some fluctuations are now visible. Poll data disclosed this week positions the president at a 41% approval score, indicting a dip from the average 45%.

A new survey also highlighted that a majority of American citizens disapprove of President Trump’s aggressive approach in Iran. Since his return to office, Trump has been rigorously active with an array of contentious executive actions that have undeniably strained his public credibility.

Initial months of this term have seen Trump’s approval ratings plummet to historically low levels. According to a recent investigation carried out by the New York Times, the number stands at about 44% approval, whereas 52% disagree with his performance to date.

The analytics also showcase a worrisome scenario for Trump on his handling of seven crucial issues, failing to secure majority votes. Along similar lines, a Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed an approval score of 41%, the weakest in his second term, reflecting a downtrend from earlier in the month.

Such abysmal scores were revealed post the U.S. air strikes on Iran, escalating concern among the American population. Of these, 84% expressed their worry about the stand-off, with approximately half even opposing the idea of more air strikes from the U.S.

A historical evaluation by Gallup shows that Trump’s scores in June of his initial years in office are lower than any contemporary President. In a recent Gallup poll, only 40% approved of Trump’s administration thus far.

In an interesting comparison, the poll released June 26 reported Trump’s approval rating sitting at an underwhelming 41%. This was notably lower than previous evaluations from earlier in the month.

Drastically lower approval numbers were released on June 11, as per the polls, with only 38% approval alongside a 54% disapproval of his performance.

Trump’s handling of the economy and foreign policy are also a cause for concern, seeing a remarkable four-point slip in approval, standing at just 35%. This comes alongside a 57% disapproval rating raising doubts and concerns about his leadership.

When we look at the previous presidents in American history, specifically in June of their initial years in service, Trump continues to underperform compared to his predecessors. This isn’t surprising considering his unconventional methods and controversial decisions.

The situation isn’t much different when compared to figures of modern presidents in their first year in office. This includes President George H.W. Bush in June 1989 with an approval of 70%, President Ronald Reagan in June 1981 with 59% approval, and most notably Biden and Harris, who, despite their popularistic policies, fail to impress with just a 56% approval rating as of June 2021.
