Trump Predicts US Will Become ‘Guardian Angel’ Of The Strait Of Hormuz
President Trump said the United States will assume a leading role in protecting the Strait of Hormuz, declaring that America will become the “guardian angel” of one of the world’s most strategically important shipping lanes following renewed military operations against Iran.
Speaking during an interview on Fox & Friends, Trump said the United States is effectively “taking over” responsibility for keeping the waterway open after Iran’s repeated threats against international shipping. He argued that the U.S. has spent decades protecting global commerce in the region and should no longer bear the burden without compensation.
The president suggested that countries relying on the Strait of Hormuz for energy supplies should help cover the costs of maintaining security. He said wealthy nations have benefited from American military protection for years while contributing too little in return.
Trump’s remarks came after another round of U.S. military strikes targeting Iranian missile, drone, and communications facilities. The administration said the operation was intended to degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping and restore freedom of navigation through the vital corridor.
Roughly one-fifth of the world’s seaborne oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz, making it one of the most important maritime chokepoints on the planet. Ongoing tensions have already contributed to higher oil prices and renewed concerns about disruptions to global energy markets.
Iran has rejected Trump’s proposal and continues to oppose expanded U.S. involvement in the waterway. Tehran has accused Washington of escalating the conflict and insists foreign military forces should not control access to the strait.
Trump maintained that American leadership is necessary to guarantee safe passage for commercial vessels and said the United States will ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains open despite Iran’s threats. He argued that protecting one of the world’s most important shipping routes is in the interest of both the United States and its allies.
