President Donald Trump signaled that a Russia-Ukraine peace deal is approaching a decisive moment, stating that it will either be finalized in the near future or become unlikely to happen at all. Speaking at a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump underscored the urgency of negotiations, making it clear that time is running out for a resolution.
Trump Pushes for Swift Resolution
“We are working very hard to bring this war to an end,” Trump said. “There have been productive discussions with President Zelensky, NATO leadership, and other key players. Progress has been significant and swift. Either this deal happens fairly soon, or it won’t happen at all.”
Trump reiterated his long-standing belief that the war would never have occurred under his leadership, blaming the Biden administration’s weak foreign policy for allowing the situation to spiral out of control.
Devastation and a Path to Peace
The war, now in its third year, has resulted in massive destruction and loss of life, with Trump citing estimates of one million casualties—a number that may be even higher. He condemned the destruction of schools, hospitals, and historic churches and stressed the need for a diplomatic solution before more damage is done.
“I’ve had very productive conversations with President Putin,” Trump stated. “We’re not just talking—we’re working on a real solution that can bring peace.”
Economic Ties with Ukraine Strengthen
In addition to peace negotiations, Trump announced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit the White House soon to sign a landmark economic agreement. This deal will give the U.S. key access to Ukraine’s rich natural resources, including rare earth elements, oil, and natural gas.
“This will be a great deal for Ukraine, a great deal for America, and a big step forward,” Trump said. “We’re ready to start production immediately.”
Trump’s Diplomatic Strategy Moves Forward
With the Biden-era blank check policy for Ukraine now replaced by a deal-making, results-driven approach, Trump is positioning the U.S. as both a peacemaker and a strategic economic partner.
His message is clear: the opportunity for peace is here—but it won’t last forever.
