Trump Says FBI Is ‘Wasting Their Time’ Investigating Lindsey Graham’s Home
President Trump said the FBI is “wasting their time” by continuing to investigate Sen. Lindsey Graham‘s Washington, D.C., home following the South Carolina Republican’s sudden death, arguing there is no evidence of foul play.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump dismissed speculation surrounding Graham’s death and said investigators should accept the medical evidence instead of fueling unnecessary conspiracy theories.
“I think they’re wasting their time,” Trump said. “I don’t see a lot of evil there.”
Trump noted that Graham had recently complained about back pain, which doctors say can be an early symptom of an aortic dissection. He also pointed out that Graham’s father died from a similar condition at roughly the same age, suggesting the senator’s death was consistent with a hereditary cardiovascular illness rather than suspicious circumstances.
Preliminary findings from the District of Columbia medical examiner concluded that Graham died from an aortic dissection caused by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Officials have said additional toxicology and laboratory testing are still underway before a final report is issued.
The FBI returned to Graham’s Capitol Hill residence earlier this week after agents were seen entering and leaving the home as part of the ongoing investigation. Law enforcement officials have stressed there is currently no evidence of foul play and described the inquiry as a routine effort to complete the investigation surrounding the senator’s unexpected death.
Graham died Saturday at the age of 71 after returning from a congressional trip to Ukraine, where he met with President Volodymyr Zelensky and toured a secret drone manufacturing facility. He had also been working closely with the Trump administration on legislation to impose tougher sanctions on countries purchasing Russian oil and gas.
President Trump called Graham one of his closest political allies and said he believes the senator died of natural causes. While acknowledging the investigation should run its course, Trump said he sees no reason to believe Graham’s death involved anything other than the medical condition identified by investigators.
