Trump Says He Would Consider Cabinet Role For Ron DeSantis
President Donald Trump said Friday that he would consider bringing Ron DeSantis into his administration in a cabinet position once the governor’s term comes to an end.
Asked directly about the possibility, Trump responded that he likes DeSantis and left the door open to a future role, signaling a continued warming of relations between the two Republicans after a once-contentious 2024 primary.
DeSantis had challenged Trump for the GOP nomination but finished well behind him early in the race before ultimately endorsing the president. Since then, the two have aligned more closely on policy and political strategy.
One recent example of that cooperation came in Florida, where DeSantis pushed for new congressional district maps that could give Republicans an advantage in upcoming elections, a key priority for Trump as he looks to maintain GOP control of Congress.
Trump’s cabinet has seen multiple changes in recent months, with several high-profile departures creating potential openings for future appointments. The administration has not yet finalized permanent replacements for some positions, leaving flexibility for additional reshuffling.
DeSantis is currently serving his second term as governor of Florida and is term-limited, with his tenure set to conclude in early 2027.
