Trump Threatens To Deploy ICE To Airports Amid DHS Shutdown Standoff
President Donald Trump warned Saturday that he may deploy Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to U.S. airports if Democrats do not agree to fund the Department of Homeland Security.
The threat comes as the ongoing shutdown continues to disrupt airport operations nationwide.
In a Truth Social post, Trump blasted Democrats over the impasse and its impact on security and federal workers.
“The Radical Left Democrats have hurt so many people with their vicious and uncaring ways,” Trump wrote.
“If the Democrats do not allow for just and proper security at our airports… ICE will do the job far better than ever done before.”
Trump said he has already directed ICE to prepare for a possible deployment as early as Monday.
“I look forward to moving ICE in on Monday… GET READY,” he wrote.
The president also said ICE agents would focus on enforcement actions, including the arrest of illegal immigrants encountered at airports.
The warning comes as staffing shortages worsen at the Transportation Security Administration.
More than 300 TSA officers have reportedly quit during the shutdown, while many others are calling out of work at increasing rates.
The shortages have led to long lines and delays at airport security checkpoints across the country.
Federal workers are feeling the strain as missed paychecks pile up.
Some TSA officers are reportedly struggling to cover basic expenses like rent and childcare, with others taking second jobs or even sleeping in their cars to save money.
The shutdown marks the third funding lapse affecting DHS workers in the past 15 months, compounding financial pressure on employees.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk said Saturday he would be willing to personally cover the salaries of TSA workers during the funding impasse.
“I would like to offer to pay the salaries of TSA personnel during this funding impasse,” Musk said.
Negotiations between the White House and Democrats remain stalled, with both sides divided over immigration enforcement policies tied to DHS funding.
As the standoff continues, Trump’s threat signals a potential escalation aimed at restoring airport operations while increasing pressure on lawmakers to reach a deal.
