Trump Vows To Hit Iran Again After Declaring Peace Deal Dead
President Trump warned that the United States is prepared to launch another round of military strikes against Iran, saying Tehran will be hit “hard” for a second consecutive night after declaring the interim peace agreement between the two countries effectively dead.
Speaking at the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump blasted Iran’s leadership as “scum” and said he no longer believes negotiations are worthwhile following Tehran’s attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The president said Iran’s actions destroyed any remaining trust between the two countries and justified a renewed military response.
Trump indicated that U.S. forces could strike a wide range of Iranian military and strategic targets, including the possibility of targeting Kharg Island, Iran’s primary oil export terminal. He also suggested additional economic and military pressure could follow if Tehran continues threatening international shipping.
The latest escalation follows U.S. airstrikes on more than 80 Iranian targets after Iran allegedly attacked multiple commercial tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The Trump administration has also revoked Iran’s temporary license to sell oil, restoring sanctions that had been eased during the short-lived diplomatic agreement.
Despite declaring the agreement “over,” Trump said U.S. negotiators remain free to pursue diplomatic contacts if they choose. However, he made clear that he personally has little interest in continuing talks unless Iran dramatically changes its behavior.
The renewed confrontation has rattled global energy markets, with oil prices climbing sharply on fears that further fighting could disrupt traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping lanes for crude oil exports.
