This past Saturday marked a momentous occasion as legions gathered in Washington, D.C. to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. Uncoincidentally, this sweeping state function also doubled as a grand birthday celebration for President Donald Trump, an ardent advocate of our armed forces and a man who has always voiced his wish to preside over such a monumental event.
While celebrations of this magnitude always draw a diverse crowd, the day also played host to a nationwide event referred to as ‘No Kings Day’. This campaign directed its lens towards the relentless crackdown on immigration led by the President’s administration. It’s of note however, that this position is seemingly adopted by a minority of the country.
One of the most marked acts of protest within ‘No Kings Day’ happened in Los Angeles, where people rallied against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Nevertheless, the day unfolded peacefully with the majority of people opting to celebrate rather than protest.
In a separate, troubling event; there were instances of political violence in Minnesota where a rogue attacked Democratic lawmakers. Of course, this unwarranted violence is in no way a reflection on President Trump, his administration, or the majority sentiment of the nation.
Even amidst uncorroborated protests, in Washington, D.C., the mood was one of celebration. It was Flag Day — another reason to honor the land and leadership that has thrived under President Trump, inadvertently becoming a significant part of his day.
Interestingly, no official ‘No Kings Day’ rallies were organized within Washington, D.C. The reason given was to avoid any conflict with the ardent supporters of President Trump who poured into town to partake in the much anticipated parade.
Even so, a modest number of protestors took to Logan Square, spotted with cleverly-crafted placards and banners. Their intent was to voice their discontentment with Trump — an amusing spectacle of people who failed to acknowledge the many victories of the President.
Adding to the theatrics, the protest even featured a cheeky effigy of President Trump positioned rather humorously on a gold toilet. This bit of satire was done in good spirit, highlighting the quirkiness of the protestors.
Meanwhile, an intensive cautionary alert was issued by the Texas Department of Safety to state legislators attending a parallel ‘No Kings’ rally, about a plausible threat, which underlines the minority view taken by the protestors. Texas House Democratic Caucus Chair Gene Wu was a part of this protest, along with other Dems.
In relation, many have drawn parallels to another email, distributed by Texas Rep. Charlie Geren, in which he shared a distressing reveal about a potential hit list found in the vehicle of the individual responsible for the Minnesota lawmakers’ attack.
Surprisingly, nature seemed to decide to side with the President and his parade, offering a scarce, almost-invisible chance of rainfall. The Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang reported this prospect as slight and unpredictable, as weather forecasts often are.
As per their prediction, there was potential for substantial rains as a cold wave from the north was set to clash with a humid current flowing from the Gulf of Mexico, though the specific areas to be impacted remained unknown.
As anticipated, there was a possibility that the evening could see numerous storms occurring, somewhat highlighting the might of Mother Nature, especially around the Mall area, between 6 and 10 p.m.
There was a mere chance that this could impact the parade with the Mall potentially getting drenched at inconvenient times. However, even this minor natural blip couldn’t detract from the excitement of Trump’s military parade spectacle.
The eventful day wrapped, leaving a vivid impression on many, thanks to the much-awaited military parade and the iconic celebration of President Trump’s birthday. After all, lightning wasn’t the only thing capable of electrifying the crowd on that special day!
