Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has officially announced his candidacy for the 2026 Ohio gubernatorial race, receiving immediate endorsements from both President Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
At a rally in Cincinnati, Ramaswamy, 39, outlined his vision to transform Ohio into a hub of innovation and excellence. His platform includes educational reforms such as universal school choice, performance-based pay for teachers, and a ban on cell phones in schools. He also proposes eliminating the state income tax and reducing bureaucratic inefficiencies to attract businesses and foster economic growth.
President Trump, who previously competed against Ramaswamy in the 2024 Republican presidential primaries, expressed strong support, stating, “Vivek is also a very good person, who truly loves our Country. He will be a GREAT Governor of Ohio, will never let you down, and has my COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT!”
Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), also endorsed Ramaswamy, posting on social media, “Good luck, you have my full endorsement!”
Ramaswamy’s campaign aims to position Ohio as a leader in sectors like semiconductor production, nuclear energy, biotechnology, and cryptocurrency. He envisions the state as a model of excellence, drawing inspiration from its industrial heritage.
The Ohio gubernatorial race is expected to be highly competitive, with Ramaswamy facing contenders such as Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and former state health director Dr. Amy Acton. With the backing of prominent figures like Trump and Musk, Ramaswamy’s entry adds significant momentum to the race.
