With Elon Musk stepping down from his official role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the White House has unveiled a new leadership plan to ensure the program continues full steam ahead. According to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, DOGE will now operate under the direct oversight of President Trump and his Cabinet, each member playing an active role in driving forward the mission to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse across the federal government.
“DOGE is not going anywhere,” Leavitt stated. “In fact, it’s becoming more integrated into the everyday workings of the executive branch.”
Much of the DOGE staff Musk assembled during his tenure will remain in place—reassigned as political appointees inside key federal agencies. This move ensures that the culture of accountability and efficiency Musk championed will continue to shape how the government operates from within.
Although Musk’s departure was mandated by federal rules limiting special government employees to 130 days of service, President Trump emphasized that Musk would continue advising informally. “DOGE is Elon’s baby,” Trump said, “and we’re going to make sure his vision lives on.”
During Musk’s time at the helm, DOGE launched a series of aggressive reforms, targeting outdated programs, eliminating redundant agencies, and slashing billions in wasteful spending. The department claims it uncovered over $175 billion in potential savings, though critics argue the number is exaggerated and that some of the cuts disrupted vital services.
Despite the criticism, Trump officials remain firm in their commitment to pushing the DOGE agenda forward. The initiative’s new structure is designed to be leaner, more embedded, and ultimately more powerful—operating not as a siloed office, but as a mindset permeating every branch of the administration.
“This isn’t about a figurehead,” one senior official said. “It’s about results. DOGE is now the operating standard for how this administration does business.”
As the administration ramps up efforts to codify DOGE reforms into law, supporters say the program could become one of the Trump presidency’s most enduring legacies—a complete rethinking of how Washington should work for the American people.
