President Trump Convenes Situation Room Meeting For Final Decision On Iran Deal
President Donald Trump announced Friday that he will make a “final determination” on a proposed agreement with Iran that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, end the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, and place Tehran’s remaining enriched uranium under American control for destruction.
In a lengthy Truth Social statement, President Trump made clear that any agreement hinges on Iran permanently surrendering its nuclear ambitions and allowing the United States to eliminate what he called the regime’s remaining “nuclear dust.”
“The enriched material, sometimes referred to as ‘Nuclear Dust,’ which is buried deep underground with virtually collapsed mountains, caused by our powerful B2 Bomber attack 11 months ago, sitting on top of it, will be unearthed by the United States … in close coordination and conjunction with the Islamic Republic of Iran, plus the International Atomic Energy Agency, and DESTROYED,” President Trump wrote.
The president added that it had already been “agreed” the United States, alongside China, possesses the only equipment capable of extracting the buried uranium stockpile.
The proposed memorandum of understanding would mark the most significant diplomatic breakthrough since the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran on Feb. 28 with the stated objectives of dismantling Tehran’s nuclear capabilities, degrading its missile infrastructure, and pressuring the regime politically and economically.
Under the framework currently under review, the cease-fire between both sides would be extended for 60 days while negotiations continue on a broader nuclear agreement.
The proposal would also reopen unrestricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and lift the US blockade on Iranian ports that has severely damaged Tehran’s economy and disrupted global oil markets.
President Trump reiterated Friday that Iran would never be permitted to obtain a nuclear weapon.
“Iran must agree that they will never have a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb,” the president declared.
The framework would also prohibit Iran from charging tolls on commercial traffic passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which President Trump emphasized must remain open to “unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions.”
Additionally, Iran would be required to remove all naval mines from the strategic waterway.
“All water mines (bombs), if any, will be terminated,” President Trump wrote, noting that US naval forces had already detonated numerous mines during operations in the region.
The president suggested the administration is already preparing to lift portions of the naval blockade as negotiations advance.
“Ships caught in the Strait due to our amazing and unprecedented Naval Blockade, which will now be lifted, may start the process of ‘heading home!’” he posted. “Say HELLO to your wives, husbands, parents, and families from me, your favorite President!”
President Trump also clarified that no sanctions relief or financial concessions would be granted immediately.
“No money will be exchanged, until further notice,” he wrote, signaling that future economic relief would depend on Iran fully complying with the agreement and future nuclear negotiations.
Iranian officials have continued publicly insisting that their nuclear program is intended solely for peaceful purposes, though President Trump and his administration have repeatedly argued that Tehran’s uranium enrichment capabilities pose an unacceptable threat.
Unlike former President Barack Obama’s 2015 nuclear agreement, which allowed Iran to maintain certain enrichment activities, President Trump’s proposal would reportedly require the total elimination of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and future enrichment capability.
The White House confirmed Thursday that the proposed agreement remains under active consideration as President Trump and his national security team deliberate inside the Situation Room.
