FBI: Kirk Assassin Had “Rabid Obsession,” Boasted of Perfect Plan to “Take Out” Conservative Icon

The FBI confirmed Monday that Charlie Kirk’s suspected assassin was driven by a deranged ideological obsession with the conservative leader — and had meticulously planned the murder in advance, going so far as to leave behind chilling written and digital evidence of his intentions.

Tyler Robinson, 22, the alleged killer of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, “clearly had some obsession” with the influential conservative, according to FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino.

“It’s fairly obvious this was an ideologically motivated attack,” Bongino said on Fox News, noting that digital footprints and interviews with friends and family point to a deep-seated hatred for Kirk’s values.

Murder Plot Revealed in Texts and Notes

FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox & Friends that Robinson sent a disturbing text message in which he announced his intention to assassinate Kirk because of his political beliefs.

“He claimed he had an opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk — and he was going to do it because of his hatred for what Charlie stood for,” Patel said.

Patel also confirmed that Robinson left behind a hand-written note stating, “I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it.” That note was later destroyed, but forensic evidence recovered from the home Robinson shared with his transgender-identifying boyfriend confirmed its existence.

Missed Warning Signs

Bongino emphasized that the FBI will subpoena individuals in Robinson’s network to determine who knew about the plot but failed to act.

“There appear to have been multiple warning signs,” Bongino said. “People in his network — friends, family, co-workers — saw that he was becoming more politically radical, more detached, and something was clearly wrong.”

Patel added that some of the most shocking revelations have come from Robinson’s own family and his live-in partner, who is reportedly cooperating fully with investigators.

Robinson’s increasingly unhinged behavior had become known to those around him. Despite that, no one alerted authorities before Kirk was gunned down during a peaceful campus event attended by thousands.

Confirmed Evidence, No Cooperation From Suspect

Authorities have linked Robinson’s DNA to both the towel used to wrap the murder weapon and a screwdriver recovered from a rooftop sniper’s nest. Investigators believe Robinson fired the fatal shot from the roof of a building overlooking the crowd.

“The DNA hits from the towel and screwdriver are a match for the suspect in custody,” Patel said. The rifle used in the attack, a bolt-action hunting weapon, is still undergoing forensic testing.

Despite the mounting evidence, Robinson has refused to cooperate with law enforcement since his arrest. However, multiple individuals close to him have confirmed his political radicalization — with some noting a “rabid obsession” with Charlie Kirk that intensified over the past two years.

Kirk’s Legacy and a Nation in Mourning

Charlie Kirk, a married father of two and a fearless advocate for conservative values, was shot in the neck at Utah Valley University last Wednesday. The murder sent shockwaves through the nation, drawing tributes from leaders, athletes, and citizens across the political spectrum.

Patel, a close friend of Kirk, delivered an emotional eulogy at a press conference last week, ending with a promise: “Rest now, brother. We have the watch, and I’ll see you in Valhalla.”

Robinson remains in custody and is expected to be formally charged with murder on Tuesday.
