Nationwide ‘No Kings’ Protests to Rally Against Authoritarianism

This Saturday, a series of demonstrations known as the ‘No Kings’ protests are scheduled to take place in multiple cities nationwide, including a significant presence in North Texas. The protests are aptly named to advocate for democratic principles and rally against any forms of authoritarianism.

These demonstrations have been planned to coincide with a military parade in the nation’s capital—marking the 250th anniversary of the Army—in addition to the birthday of President Donald Trump. The syncing of these events is interestingly symbolic, creating a complex socio-political tone.

The ‘No Kings’ protests are not a random act of defiance. They are methodically planned and executed by two significant progressive activist groups – Indivisible and the ‘50501’ movement. This combination marks them as an impressive collaborative effort in the arena of civic demonstrations.

The ‘50501’ movement’s name is a code representing their mission statement—50 states, 50 protests, one movement. Its aim is to stimulate a nationwide action geared towards fostering democracy. The groups involved are advocating for change across the length and breadth of the United States.

In the region of North Texas, preparations are underway to stage almost a dozen of these demonstrations. The cities slated to host these protests include, but are not limited to, Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Burleson, Frisco, Denton, and McKinney, amongst others.

The city of Carrollton, along with Kaufman, are amongst the early birds, with planned ‘No Kings’ protests set to kick off from 9 a.m. Another protest hot-spot, Frisco, will follow a half hour later, with its event scheduled to start from 9:30 a.m.

Ground reports from these regions show encouraging signs. Video footage captured by the on-ground teams reveal crowds flocking the areas, banners and placards in hand, forming human chains along both sides of FM 423. On occasion, passing vehicles have been observed honking in solidarity with the protestors.

A string of other cities including Arlington, McKinney, and Greenville, have their protests slated for a 10:00 a.m. kick-off. This will be followed by events in Denton and Weatherford commencing from 11:00 a.m. Soon after, the event in Garland is scheduled to start from 11:30 a.m.

The ‘No Kings’ protest in Dallas, projected to be the most substantial demonstration in North Texas, is set to erupt from noon. The organizers of the Dallas protest have announced an impressive slate of speakers for the day that blends humor with sincere advocacy.

Comedian Paula Poundstone is scheduled to address the Dallas protest, aligning her appearance with her show in the city on the same date. Other speakers lined up include prominent immigration and human rights lawyers, a labor union leader, and several dedicated activists, promising a dynamic blend of perspectives.

Parallel to the Dallas demonstration, Fort Worth will also host its ‘No Kings’ protest from noon. Following this, Burleson has its event set to commence from 1 p.m., keeping the momentum of protest strong throughout the day.

The town of Sanger will be the last to join this parade of democratic defiance, launching its ‘No Kings’ protest at 1:30 p.m. While the start times may vary, the purpose remains steadfast, driving home the message of democracy over authoritarian rule.

Collectively, these events illustrate a powerful message and a strong sense of unity. They symbolize a nationwide call to action and send a clear directive that authoritarian rule will not be accepted, and democracy will always reign supreme, regardless of the place and time.
