Trump Announces $2.4 Billion AI Investment From Nvidia, OpenAI and Other Tech Giants to Advance American Scientific Research
President Trump announced Thursday that 11 major technology companies have committed a combined $2.4 billion in artificial intelligence resources to support federal scientific research, marking a significant expansion of his administration’s effort to strengthen American technological leadership.
The commitments, announced during the White House’s Science: A New Golden Age summit, will support the administration’s Genesis Mission. The initiative brings together federal agencies, national laboratories and private technology companies to accelerate scientific discoveries in medicine, energy, space exploration and other critical fields.
Nvidia is providing the largest commitment at $1 billion, followed by semiconductor manufacturer AMD with $500 million. OpenAI has pledged $200 million, while Google and Anthropic are each contributing $150 million toward the federal research initiative.
Additional commitments include $100 million each from AMP and Emerald AI. Amazon Web Services, Armada, Crusoe and Micron are each providing $50 million, bringing the combined value of the private-sector commitments to $2.4 billion.
The contributions primarily consist of computing resources, artificial intelligence tools, cloud credits and technical support rather than direct cash payments to the federal government. These resources will allow government researchers to access advanced technologies that would otherwise require substantial investments in computing infrastructure.
The Genesis Mission was originally launched by President Trump in November 2025 through the Department of Energy. The administration has since expanded the initiative into a government-wide scientific research effort involving more than 15 federal agencies working on national science and technology challenges.
White House officials say the program is designed to accelerate breakthroughs in areas such as cancer research, drug development, advanced manufacturing, quantum computing and energy production. By combining federal scientific data with advanced artificial intelligence systems, researchers hope to solve complex problems more efficiently.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang praised the initiative and said his company’s $1 billion commitment would help provide American scientists with the computing capabilities necessary to advance research in medicine, energy and materials science. Nvidia plans to distribute its investment over the next five years through partnerships with research institutions and computing providers.
The administration also announced additional federal scientific initiatives during Thursday’s summit, bringing the broader package of government programs and private-sector commitments to more than $6 billion. The initiatives include investments in scientific computing infrastructure, advanced research facilities and quantum technology.
Trump used the event to renew his push to describe artificial intelligence as “super intelligence,” a term he believes better represents the technology’s potential. The president has argued that AI should be viewed as an opportunity for American economic growth and scientific progress rather than primarily as a source of concern.
The president has repeatedly emphasized the importance of maintaining America’s technological advantage over China. His administration argues that accelerating domestic AI development is essential for national security, economic competitiveness and the future of American manufacturing.
The White House has also established a federal task force focused on artificial intelligence development and oversight. The group is intended to coordinate federal policy as the technology becomes increasingly important to government operations, private industry and national security.
The Genesis Mission will use artificial intelligence to analyze large scientific datasets, improve research simulations and support collaboration among government laboratories and private technology developers. Officials believe the approach could significantly reduce the time required to identify promising medical treatments, discover new materials and develop advanced energy technologies.
The participation of companies such as Nvidia, OpenAI, Google and AMD reflects the growing relationship between the federal government and America’s leading technology firms. The companies are providing access to specialized resources while working alongside researchers on projects involving scientific and technological challenges.
The administration has not announced a specific timeline for achieving the program’s broader scientific objectives. However, the new commitments will expand the computing resources available to federal researchers as the Genesis Mission continues developing.
Trump’s announcement represents another major step in his administration’s effort to make artificial intelligence a central component of American scientific and industrial policy. With billions of dollars in private-sector resources now committed, the initiative is expected to support a wide range of research projects aimed at strengthening the nation’s technological capabilities.
