Trump Announces New ‘AI Force,’ Dismisses Superintelligence Fears as a ‘Hoax’
President Trump announced Saturday that he plans to create a new “AI Force” and appoint an artificial intelligence czar as his administration pushes to keep the United States at the forefront of the rapidly expanding technology.
Trump unveiled the plans on Truth Social, where he rejected growing calls to slow the development of increasingly powerful AI systems. He said his administration will not “hinder or stifle” the industry and instead intends to encourage its continued expansion.
The president also dismissed warnings that artificial superintelligence could eventually threaten humanity, describing the growing alarm surrounding the technology as a “hoax.” His comments come amid an intensifying debate among researchers, technology executives and policymakers over whether advanced AI systems require additional safeguards.
Trump compared his proposed AI Force to the creation of the U.S. Space Force during his first administration. However, he did not provide details about the new organization’s structure, responsibilities, funding or when it would formally begin operating.
The president also said he will soon appoint a new “AI Czar” to help oversee his administration’s approach to the industry. Venture capitalist David Sacks previously held that title before leaving his special government employee position earlier this year. Sacks continues to serve as an outside adviser and has also argued against imposing additional federal AI regulations.
Trump predicted that artificial intelligence could eventually account for as much as 25% of the U.S. economy. He described the technology as the next Industrial Revolution or Internet, while arguing its eventual economic impact could be even greater.
The administration’s approach would rely heavily on existing criminal and civil laws to address harmful uses of AI rather than creating an extensive new federal regulatory system. Trump said authorities will continue watching for wrongdoing while allowing legitimate companies and developers to move forward.
His announcement follows a series of warnings from prominent figures inside the AI industry. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently called for slowing the pace of AI development, while OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk expressed support for greater caution and outside safety evaluations. Researchers have also raised concerns about increasingly capable AI agents circumventing safeguards during testing.
Trump has rejected the idea of deliberately slowing American AI development, arguing that doing so could hand an advantage to China. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has also opposed an industrywide pause, while other technology leaders have called for stronger oversight as AI capabilities advance.
Competition with China is expected to remain a major factor in the administration’s AI strategy. Trump is scheduled to host Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House next week, with artificial intelligence among the economic and national security issues surrounding the visit.
The AI Force announcement signals that President Trump intends to pursue rapid American development of the technology while resisting calls for a broad regulatory slowdown. Exactly how the new organization and AI czar will operate remains unclear, with the White House yet to release a detailed implementation plan.
