Trump Says Don Jr. Has ‘Calmed Down’ Since Marrying Bettina Anderson
President Donald Trump says marriage has had a noticeable effect on his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., joking that he has become a “different human being” since marrying Bettina Anderson earlier this year.
Trump made the lighthearted remarks while speaking to staff and diplomats at the U.S. ambassador’s residence in Dublin during his trip to Ireland. Don Jr. was among the family members accompanying the president.
“Don’s here with a whole group — whole group of family. And he just got married, he’s happily married, which is nice,” Trump told the audience.
Trump then joked about the change he has noticed in his 48-year-old son since the wedding, saying Don Jr. has “calmed down so much” and calling the transformation “a good sign.”
Don Jr. and Anderson, 39, legally married in Florida in May before celebrating with an intimate wedding ceremony on a private island in the Bahamas. About 40 relatives and close friends reportedly attended, including Don Jr.’s children and siblings.
Trump was unable to attend the Bahamas celebration because he remained in Washington amid the escalating conflict with Iran. At the time, the president said government responsibilities prevented him from making the trip despite wanting to be there for his son.
Don Jr. later described Anderson as bringing “peace, joy, and light” into his life while sharing footage from their wedding. The couple had been romantically linked since 2024 and announced their engagement in December 2025.
Trump also joked about first lady Melania Trump during his remarks in Dublin. Melania remained in Washington following the September 11 remembrance ceremony at the Pentagon, with Trump telling the audience that his wife was there “in spirit.”
The president’s comments offered a rare personal glimpse into his eldest son’s life just days after Don Jr. appeared at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas. Don Jr. remains active in Republican politics and frequently appears at political events around the country.
For Trump, however, the focus in Dublin was largely personal as he celebrated his son’s marriage and joked about the apparent change it has brought to Don Jr.’s personality.
