Trump Slams Bill Maher After Gavin Newsom Interview
President Donald Trump sharply criticized comedian and HBO host Bill Maher following Maher’s recent interview with California Governor Gavin Newsom.
In a Truth Social post, Trump took aim at both Maher and Newsom, questioning why conservative outlets continue to give Maher attention. He described Maher as “weak and ineffective” and claimed that media coverage was unnecessarily elevating his relevance in political discussions.
Trump also recounted a past meeting with Maher at the White House, portraying the host as nervous and unprepared. He contrasted that impression with Maher’s on-air persona, suggesting the comedian appeared different in private settings.
Turning to the interview itself, Trump said he watched portions of Newsom’s appearance and argued that Maher failed to challenge the governor effectively. He claimed Newsom was able to speak at length about California’s performance without sufficient pushback.
The president also criticized Newsom’s handling of issues in California, pointing to concerns such as homelessness, infrastructure projects, and population trends. He argued that these topics were not adequately addressed during the discussion.
Trump concluded by urging conservative media outlets to stop featuring Maher as a political voice, calling him ineffective and dismissing his influence. He also compared Maher to Jimmy Kimmel, saying Maher was only marginally more talented.
The remarks come amid Trump’s broader criticism of late-night hosts, including recent calls for action against Kimmel over comments involving First Lady Melania Trump.
