Mitch McConnell Continues Recovery Following Hospitalization

Sen. Mitch McConnell’s condition has improved following last month’s medical emergency that resulted in his hospitalization, according to a statement released Thursday by a spokesperson for the Kentucky Republican.

“Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital,” the spokesperson said. “The senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.”

McConnell, 84, was reportedly found unconscious at his Washington residence on June 14 and was transported to a local hospital following the incident.

Emergency dispatch records from that morning indicated that Advanced Life Support personnel responded to a report of cardiac arrest and noted that CPR was in progress upon their arrival.

The longtime Kentucky senator has faced several health challenges in recent years, including multiple falls that resulted in injuries such as a concussion and fractured ribs.

He has also experienced several highly publicized moments in which he appeared to freeze or become unable to speak during public appearances, incidents that aides attributed to episodes of light-headedness.

McConnell was previously hospitalized earlier this year with flu-like symptoms and has frequently been seen using a wheelchair in recent months.

The seven-term senator served as Senate Republican leader from 2007 until January 2025, making him the longest-serving Senate party leader in American history.

Earlier this year, McConnell announced that he would not seek reelection and plans to retire at the conclusion of his current term.
