Trump To Visit Mount Rushmore To Celebrate America’s 250th Birthday

President Trump will travel to South Dakota on Friday to headline a major patriotic celebration at Mount Rushmore as the nation marks the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The event is expected to feature a keynote address from the president beneath the iconic monument honoring Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Organizers have also planned military tributes, flyovers, musical performances, and a large fireworks display to commemorate the historic milestone.

The Mount Rushmore celebration is being billed as one of the centerpiece events of the yearlong America 250 festivities taking place across the country ahead of Independence Day weekend. Officials expect thousands of Americans to gather in the Black Hills for the occasion.

The fireworks show marks the return of Independence Day fireworks to Mount Rushmore after several years without displays at the national memorial. The event is being held in partnership with federal officials and the state of South Dakota as part of the country’s semiquincentennial celebration.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum is expected to join President Trump for the festivities as the administration continues its push to make America 250 a major national celebration.

The visit follows Trump’s appearance earlier this week at the opening of the new Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in North Dakota, another event tied to the broader America 250 initiative.
